Heritage Arc

The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department under the Samajwadi Party Government conceived the Heritage Arc in 2014-15. This area stretching from Agra to Lucknow and Varanasi has proven to be an integral step to boosting tourism in the country's most populous state. The Arc takes the traveller through a journey of monuments, historical events, architectural wonders, pilgrimage points, wildlife, and spiritual places celebrating the immense pool of culture and tradition in the state.

  • The Heritage Arc covering Lucknow, Agra, and Varanasi has been approved by Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
  • It covers 12-15 districts spread over 540 km.
  • Work is in progress to improve the road network and infrastructure in these three major cities of the state.
  • The historical monuments are being restored to encourage more tourists to visit Uttar Pradesh.
  • Old buildings are being reconstructed as Heritage Hotels to include them in the practice.
  • Ownership of the documents pertaining to forts, old bungalows, palaces, etc. are being made simpler.
  • Taking loans against historical buildings are being made more conducive.
  • Frequency of inter-state flights have been improved to make travel simpler for interested tourists.
  • Air lines connected with the Heritage Arc are given a rebate in tax, VAT, and other facilitates.
